78th Independence Day Celebrated at Navithanveli Divisional Secretariat; New Office Uniforms Introduced
The main ceremony to mark the 78th Independence Day of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, organized by the Navithanveli Divisional Secretariat, was held on February 4, 2026.
The event was presided over by the Divisional Secretary, Mrs. Rahulayahi Sajindren, at the Secretariat premises.
The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Divisional Secretary, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Reflecting the multi-ethnic and multi-religious diversity of Sri Lanka, school children participated in traditional cultural attire. The Divisional Secretary delivered a special Independence Day address highlighting the significance of the day.
Several key events took place during the ceremony:

Assistive Devices Distribution: Under the Provincial Social Services Department's program for persons with disabilities, a wheelchair was handed over to a selected beneficiary within the division.

Special Recognition: Mr. Santharasa Thanujan from the Chavalakadai Grama Niladhari division was honored with a certificate of appreciation and a memento. He was recognized for his voluntary service in providing boat transportation along the Navithanveli-Kittangi road during last year’s floods.

Uniform Launch: The official office uniform for the year 2026 was introduced, with staff members attending the ceremony dressed in the new attire.
The event saw the participation of Accountant Mr. K. Risvi Yahzar, Deputy Planning Director Mrs. Thilakarani Kirupairajah, Administrative Officer Mr. O. G. K. Kusuminda, Administrative Grama Niladhari Mr. Manoj Indrajith, Samurdhi Headquarters Manager Mr. S. Sivam, along with Chief Management Service Officers, field officers, Grama Niladharis, and other staff members. Simultaneously, Independence Day programs were also conducted across various Grama Niladhari divisions under the guidance of the Divisional Secretary.
